What does the term “superfood” signify, and what qualities does it possess?

Superfood is a notion that has recently entered the culinary arts. This kind of food was once called “nutritious foods,” which was a derogatory term that did not fully represent their potential. In fact, superfoods don’t just nourish, but they do so in the most complete way possible.

The main characteristic of these foods is the abundance of nutrients, an abundance that represents quantity as well as variety. So it is not uncommon to find yourself faced with “superfood flour,” which is not limited to carbohydrates but also contains a lot of proteins. Most superfoods are exotic, coming from Asia and the Americas. However, many are also local or have been part of the Italian tradition for several centuries.
